Split 1 hive to make 2, The man helping saw eggs, so we made the split. No queen, let them make there own. I checked after 4 or 5 days and saw several queen cells. I just checked the hive and lots of capped honey and pollen. No brood. The split was made on June 19, so this sat will be 21 days. Am I correct that it take approx 28 days before a new queen SHOULD start laying? Or whenever she gets ready. I saw no queen today, but I seldom do.
Thanks in advance. Wes

Lets call June 19th day 4 assuming the bees used a day old larvae the day of the split. That means the queen should have emerged on July 1st. I usually wait two weeks after the queen has emerged before checking for eggs. Wait until July 15th or 16th and check for eggs.

According to my math she should be about 8-9 days old so if you have good weather she could be laying in about another week.

Thanks all especially honeykeeper. I will wait a few days after so my eyes can see better or should I say bigger things.
