I need to coat the bars on my newly built top bar hive and I have some wax that my wife bought a few years ago. I thought it was beeswax as it has that nice golden color, but it doesn't smell anymore. How long does beeswax smell? Or better yet, how can I be sure it is? It'd be nice to know before I paint all the bars.

Take a chunk of wax and chew it like gum. Beeswax will become dry and flakey in your mouth , parifin will get soft and chewy like gum.

I may be wrong, but I think paraffin glows in UV light, beeswax does not. Check it first with a known sample of each.
