We got our first honey yesterday off of a couple of hives. We also put apigar mite treatment in afterwards. The bees now act like they want to swarm. For two days now they cover the face of hive and form a small beard underneath. Could it be from lack of space now that the honey supers are gone? There were two on this hive. Thanks for any comments and I am in WV.

Yes, that would be normal. They don't have space inside (or don't want to crowd the hive in these high temperatures), so they are hanging outside for now. Are you putting back the supers after extracting?

If you are using Apiguard which stinks up the place it is vary normal. If you are using Apivar that has no effect of the bees.

We dont want to use supers this late and while we are treating for mites. We need to get another brood box.

We did use apiguard on one hive, since we ran out of the strips, but don't think it was this one.
