I made 12 hive top feeder last weekend. After looking at them I got to wondering what keeps the bees in the screened area when the feeder runs dry.

I put some window type screen there for now but it looks kinda unsecure. What does everyone else do about this. I thought about making the outside partition boards long enough to reach the bottom and then cut thin slots in to allow the syrup to flow inside.

#8 hardware cloth is stiff and small enough to keep the bees out. you can cut it to butt up against the sides and the bottom when screening in the feeding area. If the bees can push through at all they will.
