City to reconsider bee hive ordinance

"After hearing a second time from a local beekeeper, the City Council asked the city manager to draw up a sample ordinance that would abolish the 1976 anti-beekeeping legislation. The current ordinance designates beekeeping a nuisance crime. In part, the ordinance reads: “It is unlawful to keep or harbor any bees. Any beehive used or occupied by bees is hereby declared a nuisance, and it is unlawful to keep or maintain any such hive.”

Just exactly what it will be replaced with is unclear. But one thing is certain: across the country the line separating agricultural use from residential areas is being erased as cities become more open to allowing chickens and other farm animals for personal use."

Just an FYI.
