I am from the middle of Iowa. I used to keep bees, but due to job constraints I had to quit when it became more than a hobby. My back still hurts. I want to start again using TBH and promise to keep it as a hobby this time!! I have lots of questions, and love talking about bees. I will be retiring in about 5 months so I can devote lots of time to the girls!! :) Talk to you all soon.

Thanks, HAB. I got carried away today and made my first TBH. I used white oak. I want to stain it, but am wondering if the stain smell will bother the bees. Any thoughts.

Thank you!

Water base stain on the outside shouldn't be a problem. I use white water based latex primer and then whatever water based exterior is available in the reject bin at Lowes. Don't paint the inside.
