Kinda stumbled into this beekeeper thing. Had a swarm spend a couple of days in a pine tree on my property last year. But they left before I got a KTBH built for them.
Then this spring I was able to capture a swarm at the cemetery where I work. They seemed to like it in the KTBH I built. But it was blown over 3 weeks after they were installed in high winds that also took out a bunch of trees. I found them inside the hive and was able set them upright again. But their comb was pretty tore up. They left the next day.
So I set up a smaller KTBH as a bait hive at home and was Blessed with a colony a few days later. That was a little over 3 weeks ago. After spending much time reading threads on here an observing I concluded that it was a cast swarm with a virgin queen.
I am enjoying this new and interesting hobby.
