Yea, if you bought this as an established hive a week ago, then it's probably leftover parts of a Megabee pattie or some other pattie. That's what they look like after the bees quit using them and they dry out. I've pulled the same pieces out of my hives after the pollen flows start.
Sounds like whoever you got the hive from was taking care of them, helping the start this year off strong.
