Hello all. Recently bought property with a trailer on it where I'll live. Have fruit tree on the property and plan on a 1/4 acre garden with the same size area planted with flowering plants. Have no experience with bee keeping but want to learn. Have read several books and think I want to use top bar hives. My purpose for having bees is for pollination of the veggie garden.

I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Welcome from NE Kansas act! It's incredibly addictive stuff. I use Lang hives now, but I'm going to start a horizontal hive of some sort next spring.

Welcome to BeeSource! I also have TBHs, and I highly recommend Wyat Mangum's book on TBHs -- http://www.tbhsbywam.com/. It's pricey, but an excellent resource. I go back to it all the time.

One suggestion -- definitely get at least two hives. A lot of newbies make the mistake of having only 1. Having 2 hives gives you some resources in the event of an emergency.
