Hi folks. As the subject says, I'm in Maryland. I'm not a beekeeper yet, but just started seriously looking into it. I don't think I'll start until next year. I have a bunch of other things that I need to do in the yard, and I'm just not ready for bees yet. One of the things we will be doing is putting in a bunch of fruit trees. We were going to do this either way, but I'm thinking that this will be a nice forage area for the bees.

Since I'm still in the research phase of this undertaking, I'm open for any suggestions for getting started on the right foot. I intend to take the local beekeeping association class, but that's not until next year. I'm also planning on joining the association.

Welcome, the association and class will be extremely helpful. There are a few good books like Beekeeping for Dummies. There are things you cannot learn from books and the Internet that the workshops will teach. On this forum there is a lot of experience and even more opinions. Knowing the difference will go a long way to a healthy hive.
