Hello!

I live in Iowa City and want to keep bees. (well, just outside of town where I can do what I want!!)

I have been reading about bees for years and still feel like I just have no idea what to buy or do. So I decided to just find a bee forum and maybe it will all make sense, eventually.

Re: Hello from easter Iowa

Hello and Welcome!

Hello!
I have been reading about bees for years and still feel like I just have no idea what to buy or do.
Start with the subforum "How to Start Beekeeping". There are different threads offering suggestions on "the basics". Check you local library for books and videos on beekeeping. Keep reading.

Michael Bush has a website that is nicely organized to answer many beekeeping questions. If you read everything he has to say, you'll have more & usually better info than you'll find in most beginning beekeeping books

Next, get involved with a beekeeping club. Clubs often offer beginning beekeeping classes, and are great places to find mentors and get connected with local beekeepers. Arrange to visit another beekeeper to actually get into a hive and get 'up close and personal' with some bees.

Lastly, this forum has a 'seach' function that I use frequently. Very often when I have a question, I can find several threads where it has already been discussed. This is very useful when you want an answer RIGHT NOW and don't want to wait a couple days for folks to post answers.
