Hello all,

My husband and I became beekeepers this past April. We started with two packages, which have been doing great this summer, and will be extracting our very first honey in the next few weeks! We are also the keepers of a small colony of bees which we rescued from a water meter cavity. I'm looking forward to reading about other beekeepers' experiences with the buzzy girls.

What I've heard from local beekeepers is that our winters are pretty easy on the bees, especially close to the water. I do know that I've seen bees foraging even in the dead of winter, on days that it warms up a bit. I think our Bay Area bees will have a much easier time overwintering than bees in other climates.
