Hello all,

I'm a scientist and author from Melbourne, Australia who has caught the bug of backyard beekeeping.

Over the past 24 months I've been on a steep learning curve and have learnt from many mistakes. Fortunately no major catastrophes and I've been lucky on the honey production side of things, so I haven't been discouraged.

I'm particularly interested in the science behind honey, bees and the environmental importance of pollinators in general. I'm keen to communicate this to kids (starting with my three). I'm currently working on a couple of kids novels that incorporate bees, so I'll be using this splendid forum for research. I've also developed an interest in hive design, so I'll be looking for tips.

Having followed this forum for a while now I'm looking forward to being an active participant.

Mai Field.

Thanks Knisely, and true. Following the forum will give me something to do over the winter when my bees are less active. They are slowing down at the moment.
