I am posting from Pennsylvania, USA. Now in my third year, I am taking the treatment-free, small-cell (natural comb) route, as this is in keeping with my philosophy as an organic homesteader. At present I have six hives.
My basic philosophy toward beekeeping is the put the bees first. As this species is having so much trouble, it only seems reasonable to place their survival as a species above personal gain. What I gain is the joy of stewarding them. If I can add a bit of honey to my tea, well that's just icing on the cake. Beyond that, is the stark realization that our survival will be benefitted by theirs.
Beyond beekeeping, and farming, I am also an artist and musician, a philosopher and a homeschool mother of one child. I look forward to learning and sharing together on this forum.
