The young larvae are very robust and are hard to injure. With that said, gentle shaking will get many bees off without dislodging the larvae....a brush or tall grass will finish the job.

Thanks deknow. You addressed the question I did not ask but was interested in "how susceptible are the larva to shaking?" Unfortunately I have a lot of practice as I have had to do shake-outs of laying workers on 2 occasions this spring. :(
