I am interested in anyone's experience with the Golden Hive / Einraumbeute (18" tall x 11- 1-1/4" wide frame with 12-7/8" top bar) especially in northern climates but also , perhaps, comparisons between this frame size and other extra-deep frames such as the Layens hive , Lazutin etc.

I looked at it.
Doing just about the same - just on the cheap and avoiding excessive customization.
Great hives in all respects (minus the mobility).

I have considered Dadant as well but haven't seen where anyone in the US is making that frame either. The benefits of the Dadant are certainly worth looking into and I feel a better option than a split Langstroth deep brood chamber. If I'm going to have to build my own frames anyway then all options are still open.
