Giant Asian Hornet

Knocked this out of the air with a Sabal palmetto frond petiole, because I thought it was an Asian Hornet, but it has slightly different markings, and does not have a real yellow head either, did I kill it for naught? thanks, Ed

Yes...It it a cicada killer. They are solitary ground dwellers.

I wouldn't think so...here is a decent read. I have very, very little experience with them, so you may want to do some more research. Maybe somebody else will chime in.

I used to be concerened about Mud Dobbers, too. They're pretty intimidating looking, but after seeing them pluck unwanted worms off my cucumber and tomato plants, I have embraced them, too. Never seen either species near any of my hives.
