i left an empty long lang in my yard before i installed 3 nucs.

now the empty, aka orphan, is doing well......many bees were disturbed by this veil-less beeker during the early evening of may 28

What should i look for in the orphan/ Because i'm moving 300 miles away i'm leaning towards combining the orphan with a small colony.

TIA

Your question is a little hard to follow. You referred to an empty hive, and then it was an orphan (queenless?), and now it's doing well.

What is the back-story on that colony? ...winter starvation? ...swarmed recently? ...empty equipment that was taken over by a swarm?

good points Carl.....my bad

empty, the hive box lost all bees during the winter due to little or no fresh air

orphan, i refer to it now as an orphan, ..... with bees from other colony(s)

swarmed, i doubt it.....have not seen any swarming from the long hives that i use......of course, there is always a first
