question is, just what is the friction drive material used, is it stacked leather or what?

I am in the process of restoring the same extractor. If you call the Dadant metal shop you can actually get the correct friction drive part. It is made out of a dense fiber paper that is laminated. It is similar to a belt driven PTO pulley on an antique tractor. I believe Dadant had acquired Woodman at one time.
