I have 8 frame boxes and foundationless frames. My question is do I shove the frames together tight and center them in the box, or do I try to leave even distance betwen the frames? When I put 8 frames in and slide then to one side I have half a frame extra space left. Not sure where to put the extra space.

Thanks

center the frames. Some people run 8 and nine frames in 10 frame boxes. Just center them and you should be ok!

Push them tight together and center in the box.
You'll be glad you did.
First off you will have space on the outside to manuver the first frame easily thereby making space for the others. Secondly, after time the frames will be spaced further apart due to the buildup of propolis on the end bars and when you try to squeeze the frames back together after going into the hive, they just don't go back tight like they were at the start.
Thirdly, the frames are manufactured to give you the proper beespace when drawn together which promotes nice straight combs, minimal bridge/burr comb, etc.
