Took my son who is interested in beekeeping with me out to the hives to inspect our new nucs. We went through the frames methodically and found three of the four queens. We only missed the queen in hive 3 but feel confident she is there because of the calm nature of the hive and also because of new eggs.

Realized something interesting. Found small saw dust like particles in the bottom of all four hives and realized that they were dead eggs that the bees removed from the cells. That would explain why they were so quiet the first 4-5 days. The queen had to lay new eggs to replace the old dead eggs. Apparently they died as we transfered them over to the new hive boxes.

Now all four hives are bustling with activity, brood of various sizes and stages all the way down to little eggs.
