Good evening everyone,

I placed hives on forest service land (for fireweed) for the first time last year. Had a reasonably good experience.

This year, I increased the total number of hives in my application to 80. The person I'm working with said that he thought their "specialists" would have issues with that number, and suggested I reduce to "smaller, more manageable" apiary sizes. He suggested that some of their specialists would have an issue with even 40 hives in an apiary. (40 hives is what I did last year as my test of the area)

Maxing out at less than 40 hives seems extremely small to me, for an apiary that is being dropped directly on a strong flow. Has anyone else had this experience? If you place hives on forest service land, what is your standard apiary size?

Thank you for your help,
