Trying to figure out what to put under my nucs when I put them above a deep brood chamber for overwintering. Do I use a normal nuc bottom board or the deep supers inner cover ensuring there is a divider there also? A bit confused on this?
I use Palmer/ Webster type divided deep nucs. I leave the inner covers on the full sized colony and then set double nu c on top with there bottom board. I then seal any open areas with duct tape. Worked well for years. When MP said he stopped wintering in top of production colonies I moved in that direction. It's such a pain to inspect the hive under the nucs. So I use the 4 over 4 method. Or for single story nucs I put a feeder shell under the nucs to raise them up for winter cleansing flights.
