I just started three new hives with nucs grown here in central NJ. Each was four 9" frames pretty loaded up with brood. The beekeeper said I should feed them immediately and continue for a month or two.
My question is rather than use sugar water, I have four or five frames which are at least half full of honey, left over from a hive that died last winter. If I distribute these among the three new nucs, say, one full frame of honey each, how long should I expect that to last them? I'd prefer they use up the honey rather than sugar water...

Im not sure how long it would last them, but I would put the honey in and add sugar water feeders too, I doubt it would last them a month . It will give them another drawn frame to work with and help get them going faster.
