Newbie here. I just picked up my first swarm last night (very awesome experience) and was wondering if I should be feeding them sugar water. I'm going foundationless with small cell starter strips, if this makes a difference. I'm thinking the size of the swarm looked about the size of the 3 lb. package I got last month.

spencer, You have a lot of bees and you want them to draw out a lot of comb fast. If you feel confident in your nectar flow, you don't need to feed. I only feed:
1. When they're drawing out new comb.

2. When they would be starving without it. (ie no honey in the hive.

I don't like feeding I think it causes robbing, ants, spiders, etc. But if you don't know and you want to make sure they stay and thrive, feed em.
