I would consider the "front" an end. Do you mean it's on one of the long sides?

yes there are 3 holes on the long side one on each end and one in the middle

Interesting. You probably want to plug two of those. I know people run entrances pretty much anywhere. I personally use a top entrance (a space between the end and the first top bar a la Michael Bush.

The part of a center entrance that's strange to me is that it seems like you'd have to greatly manipulate the combs to make sure they cluster to one side and have their honey lined up to eat through vs. half on each side and rolling the dice that it's enough. I don't have experience in this, but it sure seems like an unnecessary "risk" or complication.
sounds like you have one like mine from Beeline apiaries. When I started my colony last July, I only had one hole open on an end. Lowes sells the right size black stopper to plug the holes. The colony has grown big enough this year that I have 2 of them opened. The middle one is not used quite as much as the original end one, but still plenty of traffic.
They have drawn out roughly half the bars. I think by the end of this summer, they will have drawn out all of the bars, and then the third one will be opened up for their use. Having multiple entrances doesn't seem to confuse them in the slightest. The brood nest is one comb away from the original hole on the end. Honey is being stored in the combs in the middle. As I open up the brood nest, the bars all get shifted down, so the honey bars will get slid toward the end.

Thanks for your input and the link if I run into a problem I'll have another option.
I will most likely plug 2 holes at first , if rhings move along as I hope remove the middle hole . Cap back up in winter months and hopfully they will build on down to the 3rd hole and I can open that one come spring plug the other 2 and so on . What im trying to say I guess is I would like the rotation of the hive on the bars feom one end to the other . Im guessing where they chose to start is where I will work from.
I have to apologize to all who answered to this .....upon looking at the hive I recieved there are 5 holes in the lower right bottom of the long side . I swore when I ordered there were 3 holes in front along the long side ...now I have to change the whole way of thinking of how I was going to work the bars . Im sure it will be ok just wanted to note my mistake thank you kindly for understanding.
