I have not seen anything but a picture on entrance feeders, but are they made so the opening the bees use is mounted flush up against the hive opening or not. Seems like if they were, and you used a small reducer on the opening, any robbers would be forced to enter the hive to hit the syrup.

Do they work this way and if not is this a good idea.

Am I crazy with this thought?

Yep thats how they work. I have found that I had to shave the plastic down a little and they will fit snugly between the bottom board and box. I dont use a traditional reducer, I just have different size shims I use depending on the opening I want. But yes, this forces the robbers to try and enter the hive to rob the syrup.
