I have a basic question extracted my honey and the bees have cleaned up the supers. Should I remove the empty supers or leave them in place? I'd like the bees to concentrate their efforts in the lower sections of the hive.
Depends on if you have another flow before winter in your area! If you do then i would keep atleast a super on the hive or hives until the flow is completely over.
If I harvest in the spring/summer, I put them back on because we usually get a fall flow here. Surplus fall honey can be harvested or re-distributed among the hives for the winter. If I harvest in the fall, I only put them back on for the bees to clean them up. Then, they come back in the barn, get treated with BT and stored for the winter.
