One of my friends that lives a mile and a half away called at 6 this evening and said her son saw a bunch of bees on her redbud tree in her yard. So I went over and they were about 2' off the ground at the first fork.

I took a super and a bottom board and a piece of plywood with me. I scooped up a lot of bees and put them in the super. I had put some lemon oil on the undrawn frames and I guess that did help.

We sat and talked for about 45 minuets and in that time most of the bees went into the super. I covered the top and most of the rest went into the bottom opening.

I'll go back in the morning early and close up the hive and move them to my house. I'll go to my other yard and take a frame of brood to give to them to induce them to stay.

If only everything were that easy.

i love those. got one very similar to that about 3 weeks ago - 5' off the ground in a crabapple. homeowner (former beek) told me to cut the branch, so i did. dropped it in the box, closed her up, came back a few hours later and took it home.
