Good question and I would like to know that same info for Southern Missouri.

I am going to try a walk away split from one hive and I am going to try to make up at least three nuc's from the other this spring.

I have no real idea of what I am doing but it is wonderful fun to be working my way through the learning process.

Happy Home

Really the question is when will there be drones galore. You need lots of drones that will be mature when the virgins fly. Drones need 12 days or so to mature after they emerge. I have read that if there are lots of drone pupae at the purple eye stage of development you can graft and they will be good to go by the time the virgin is ready.

A post a short while back spoke about last years drones still hanging around. You want to make sure the ones you are seeing are not past their pull dates.
