Dumb question ? I was checking my bees yesterday, and in front of two hives, were a bunch of drones on the ground. Are the other bees kicking them out, or what is going on ?

I know, laugh if you wish, but I am trying to learn all I can.

Best,

my guess is they probably can't fly efficiently yet but if you check a 10-20 feet radius around your hives then you might find other drones crawling that unsuccessfully tried to take flight off the bottom board. takes them a while to learn to fly.

also check to make sure varroa is not the cause. their wings might look deformed or they are lighter in color.

My drones were fat and healthy looking. Matter of fact, I picked up a bunch, and they were able to fly short distances, but not a long way. They were really "fat" looking.

Some tried to get back into the hive, but other bees met them, and shoved them back out, they were refused entry into the hive.

This is one happy retirement working with bees for me, and so much to learn.
