Ohio 6-30-10. I was at my hives and happened to see a couple drones on the ground out front. Then i saw a worker bee pulling a drone pupau onto the porch. My question, Is this normal for this time of year. Thank you in advance, Ken

Your bees could have a VSH gene in them, did you happen to pick up any of the pupa and give them a good look, they could have mites on them.

Just a thought!!

I did see another post somewhere that drones were being kicked out, Seems a little early to me.

These bees were hived first week in may. At this time they are working on their 3rd medium. Haven't been in hives for 2 wks. Perhaps its time. Open to suggestions as what too look for. Thanks Ken

at least 5 frames of syrup/honey. id check about every 10 days. with a little practice, you can "heft" the back of the hive (tilt it forward)and judge weather you're losing weight (eating down the stores) during the dearth.
good luck,mike
