I have seen double screen boards used while helping at our local bee yard and like the idea but wonder why there needs to be two screens. Maybe I am missing something on the purpose of the thing but as long as there is screen to allow warmth to get to the upper boxes and an entrance/exit for both hives isn't that enough? I am thinking about making my own so this question came to mind.

Two screens are used to keep the bees apart. I make mine out of inner covers with screen on both sides of the opening.

One solution that helps, is to make two single screen boards and use them together. That way they are easier to keep clean.
