I new and want to go into the hives often to look at progress, is this bad? Does it make them meaner or more gentle?

Not a problem, just be gentle and don't work
them up too much. If you don't work with them
you won't learn.

thats the bad thing about bees!!!! too much love is a bad thing

if you open them too often they will often leave for a home that the roof doesnt come open every few hours

they will often kill the queen thinking that its "her" fault

its a bummer that we cant "tame" bees

they dont change temperment - if they are aggressive they will only get worse

as ive always told people ..... you can learn just as much from the outside as you can from the inside of the hive

Once every week or two is fine. If they are working hard and the hive looks healthy, leave them alone unless there is a chance they are building out too fast and might swarm. Opening the hive distresses them, but you will not know whats going on unless you look.
