I have 2 hives, one with Carniolans and one with Italians. I notice my Italians bearding quite often, but my Carni's never have. They are about 10 feet away from each other so no difference in temperature. Do Carni's just not do that?
I got a few of each, Carniolans and Italians, and I agree that the Italians beard more than the Carniolans. At least the beards seems much larger. But, what the heck do I know concerning bee behavour where you live. I live in TX and it is my observation anyway.
I have been thinking about that same thing this week. I have two hives, one carni and the other is italians and the italians beard on a regular bases and the carni's do a little but not often. My hives are 4 feet apart.
Italians are known for more brood rearing than the Carniolans. Your Italian colonies probally have a higher population and are bring in more nectar so they have more bees on the porch.
