I split hives yesterday... One hive didn't take to me being inside the hive and they decided to accost me... ;0)

But my hives are near spruce trees. I just nestled myself inside it's branches as close to the tree as possible and flap a couple of branches and the girls gave up.

LOL

Daisy,
I need you to come and help with my hives,
you love taking chances...LOL
when I first open one of my two weak hives
the bees gave me that look..I knew I was in trouble. After the seventh sting I knew I had to do something. I looked around, no spruce trees. Nothing but wide open space.
Bee yard is fenced in, one gate. Swimming pool 500ft. way. So here I go running just as hard as I can. Oh they decided to come to. So I dive in the pool. Had to stay there for a little while. Finally I was able to get out. Forgot about the cell phone on my side.... Enough bees for one day..LOL

I think how you keep bees effects their apparent aggressiveness. Some of us keep bees in top bar hives, and although some of is still wear protective gear, all of us TBHers will testify to the docility of bees kept in top bar hives.
