I am in the market for a new extractor. I’m pretty much settled in on the dadant 20 frame electric extractor. Their magazine advertises it as the “new model” with a new reel design and welded leg attached as opposed to the separate stand. I know the old reel was capable of holding 32 med/shallows but I called them and they said yes that was true of the old reel in the 20 framer but the new reel in the new 20 frame extractor will only hold 20 frames no matter what size. Anyone have an experience with the old reel can teel me why they may have changed this? Anyone have the new reel can give me a product review of the extractor with the new reel and attached legs?

I have the newer Dadant 20 frame extractor. It has four sections to the reel. You can add frames between the five frames in each section. This gives you an extra 16 frames added. I don't have a picture. You just have to balance the load. Another thing that you have to pay attention about is getting each frame settled into its slot. A frame dragging on the extractor wall can blow the fuse. Don't ask me how I know this.

The Dadant is a very nice extraction tool. I also have a Maxant 20 frame. I like it as well but I like the Dadant more. There's more to go wrong with the Dadant but it's bigger and holds 20 deeps or 36 mediums and there is more clearance getting the deep frames in and out of it. The Maxant holds 10 deeps or 20 mediums. The Maxant is a tank. Superior welding and strength. It is built with a lower technology design; simple motor, pulleys and clutch. No electronic controller like the Dadant has. Can't go wrong with either machine.

I didn't take any pictures of the frames loaded up when I was extracting this fall and everything is packed away for the winter at the moment. But, as fishboy54 said, you just put the extra frames between the other frames. Also, their 2020 catalog listing the newly designed 20 frame extractor explicitly states: "Can hold up to 36 frames".

I just looked at the catalog and you are right it does day it can hold up to 36. Thanks!! Not sure why the dadant rep told me otherwise. How do you like the welded legs as opposed to the stand? Any drawbacks?

I like the welded legs. I bolted 4x4 blocks on the bottom of them with large locking casters on the bottom of the blocks so I can roll it outside and clean it out. It works well for that purpose and gives enough clearance that I can put filters on top of the buckets and still fit it under the extractor.

For me the welded legs would have been a killer. I have a Danant clarifier that I stick under my extractor. Yes I am using four legs bolted to the floor. Just something to think about.
