Hi,

I have plenty of deeps at my barn and been thinking to cut them down to meds. Anyway it seem easyer to just cut them half and i would get two shallows from one deep. I want to keep one deep for brood each hive and rest medium or shallows.

So my question is should i cut them meds or shallow. What is the difference than weight?

Thanks.

You can put the frame rest back in them with a router table and if you just have to square up the corners use a chisel.

You will not get two shallows out of a deep.

deeps 9 9/16"
mediums 6 5/8"
shallows 5 3/4"

Thats true i have to attach to both sides 4/5" board to the bottom. Then it should be about 5 3/4"

I have one machine to make the frame hangings.

Have anyone experience with extra shallow 4 3/4 frames. That would be just half deep...

You would need to make or buy frames to match them. If you don't keep proper bee space and the bees have extra room, they will fill it up with odd shaped comb and cause you lots of trouble getting frames out and a sticky mess from honey and brood in the cells in that burr comb.

I cut deeps into mediums and then cut up the leftover to make various sized shims.

I cut deeps to meds and make more meds from cutoffs.
2deeps + 1 1/2 shim with frame rests equals 3 meds.
Trim to 6 5/8.
Funky looking but the bees don't care.
Guess I'm cheap!
