I've been thinking about buying a 24/30 frame extractor for myself to make it really easy on myself to extract alot of frames at once. I've started to wonder if I could rent the use of my extractor to other beekeepers whenever I'm not using it. I'm not really looking to make a profit on the purchase so much as i am looking for a away to help make the extractor pay for itself.

So, how are rates usually set? I'm willing to let other beeks use my equipment and extract honey themselves, and I'm also willing to perform the extraction for them. What are typical rates for this kind of service?

I think that extractor rental is a great idea. I am trying to talk a local bee supply co to buy one to rent out... Then I don't have to buy another one.

Custom extracting is your best bet. That way you don't have to rely on someone else using and not abusing your equipment. Extracting for others at a per pound rate is common.

I think you should set up a honey house that would be set up so people can deliver their honey, weigh it in and then weigh the empty supers to know how much honey you extracted. Then fill buckets for them to take home. You should provide the buckets. Quality control.

You should also run things at a profitable rate. Treat it like a business. Otherwise you'll run out of good will when too many people come around. And you will weed out the ones that don't really want to pay for the service.

X cents per pound and you keep the wax.

I knew a guy who did it for others and charged $5 a super.
So I guy brings me ten boxes and I get $50. How much an hour do I make and how much profit on my honey house expenses?

I would think .35 per lb would be more realistic, that would put 10.00-15.00 in your pocket per box.

I have a friend that does it for .25 a pound and he keeps the wax. I have helped friends using my 30 frame maxant. We just run it into buckets through a screen. Easy to weigh in buckets
