I need to combine two top entrance hives. I use slotted inner covers the bees have chosen as their entrance(s). If I do a newspaper combine, the bottom hive will no longer have its own top entrance. Also, against convention it seems, but I need to move the queen right hive over the established one. Any suggestions? Force the lower hive to use a bottom opening until combined? Seems like the foragers from the bottom will return to the top hive's upper entrance before they chew through the paper.

On the top of the top box of hive that will remain, put a shingle shim on each side. Then tape the newspaper to the bottom of the first box of the other hive and put it on the shims. Then the rest if the boxes from the other hive. Then the cover (with the top entrance).
