I need to combine two top entrance hives. I use slotted inner covers the bees have chosen as their entrance(s). If I do a newspaper combine, the bottom hive will no longer have its own top entrance. Also, against convention it seems, but I need to move the queen right hive over the established one. Any suggestions? Force the lower hive to use a bottom opening until combined? Seems like the foragers from the bottom will return to the top hive's upper entrance before they chew through the paper.
