Did a split on April 22. Queen and several frames of brood and stores moved to new box and she never missed a beat.
Original hive made Q cells but yet to see any new eggs or brood. Caught a small swarm late today from a friend's house, and put them in a new box.
Should I combine with or give the struggling hive a frame of eggs and wait?
We are in the midst of a drought and no flow yet. Suspect a very weak flow this year. No fall flow.

I made three splits earlier this spring too and NONE of them made a successful queen. I ended up combining them with other swarms that I caught to give them a bigger boost. If you're flow predictions are correct you might not want to babysit a queenless hive. You could give it another week and then do a newspaper combine.

Thanks. I learned to pay attention to the weather before and after the intended split. Also learned to have a couple nuc boxes ready and divvy-up the Q cells as added insurance. Lots and lots to learn! Lol
