I have a friend who has a hive in a farm out building that I will cut-out on Wednesday. I have a hive that hasn't had a laying queen for 4 weeks. I'm thinking that I will combine the cut-out with the hive without a queen. Do I need to do a newspaper combine? Any other suggestions?

You really need to check the queenlees hive to see if you have laying workers, because if you do they may kill the new queen. So check them out if you have no laying workers then a combine will work fine. If you have LW's you will need to do a shakeout and then a combine.

Thanks for responding. The hive is completely void of any brood, so I am assuming I do not have a laying worker. Do I still need to use newspaper between the two hives?
