I have a double deep hive lots of bee's no queen and no brood whole top box of honey. Also have a small nuc with marked queen laying but seems to be double laying. Could be because they are not all built out.? Not sure.

So I am thinking of combining them so she has room to lay and can build them back up.

Plan is to do a Newspaper combine by adding a 3rd deep with newspaper under and adding the 3 frames she was using in the Nuc. Also spraying them down with vanilla SW to make them all smell the same. In a week take off the 3rd deep and swap a few frames out.

Is this a good plan. This late in the season don't want to loose another queen.

We have had bad luck with queens this year.

Sounds ok to me, I just did exactly that a few days ago. Waited over 4+ weeks for a new queen to start laying and finally gave up. I had a 5 frame nuc with 3 frames of bees that was waiting in the wings so I pinched the dud, put newspaper on top with a third deep and added the nuc. It's been 4 days and I haven't made it back yet to move the fames down and remove the third deep, maybe later today. I have done this before with no problems.
