I apologize as I'm sure this question has already been asked.

Does harvesting pollen hurt your colony? I currently just harvest honey from the supers but was curious about pollen since some friends have asked me for some. I figure honey in the super is "extra" so that's okay to take but I don't know if bees make "extra" pollen.

I know nothing about harvesting pollen so any response is helpful. Thanks!

Yes you can harvest pollen. if you look at the supply stores and search for pollen trap. That will give you some idea on traps. You can use the traps for 3 or 4 days and then close it up and let the bees have the rest of the week to bring in pollen. This will not hurt the hive. Ask you mentor or local bee group for more information.
