Assuming most beekeepers in the north that didn't go south for the winter had losses, is it logical to expect fewer swarms this spring?

and more open comb. I think so makes sense right. We'll have to see how the next few months shake out, could be a wonderful spring and they will build right back. Our spring was absolutely terrible last year, more bees were lost in February and March 2013 than in Nov, Dec, January. My hives are actually stronger at this point than last year. Plus summer 2012 was not good, very dry and hot.

Like many things in nature, if your a hunter of outdoors person, its not what just happen a few months ago, but what happened the previous year the year before. Much like how acorn mast volume affects turkey chick production etc. Cycles are longer than a few seasons
