4 days after install and I took a look at the hives from the outside. Entrance reducer is at smallest opening until they are established. I got down on my hands and knees to look at the under side of the hives(the underside of the screened portion of the screened bottom board). I noticed on 2 hives there were about 30-60 bees clustered to the bottom of the screen and barely moving. Any idea why they clustered underneath the screen and didn't go into the hive to join the cluster? BTW-The packages were installed into a single medium of 10 drawn frames. Thanks, juzzer

Caused by the bees being able to smell the queen pharamones through the screen. If you have the bottom boards that allow for a sticky board it may be a good idea to put them in for a while till the hives are up and running with brood. Too much air flow can cause them to abscond at times due to the queen's pharamones not being heavy enough in the hive.
