I bought a cheap 1/4" crown stapler a few years ago, and also some cheap staples. I didn't have a lot of blow-outs (frames), but I'm wondering if more expensive staples would shoot into the wood differently.

Does anyone know if there's a difference?

I work construction during the summer and use air tools quite often and from my experience as long as the staples are designed to work with your particular model there should not be too many problems. Blow outs from my experience are caused by having the staple to close to the edge or hitting a knot in the wood.

No difference. I've used Porter-Cable staples, and I've used cheap "no-name" Chinese staples. I expected some sort of feed improvement, or penetration, but there doesn't seem to be any difference. Just use whatever's available and cheap.
