We have odd weather this year and chalkbrood is hitting hard right now. I have heard that products containing thymol can reduce chalk brood. If I put some sprigs of thyme in the top of my hive will the bees spread thymol through the hive while they remove it and reduce chalkbrood?

It takes a lot of concentrated thymol to show serious antimicrobial effects. It's doubtful that sprigs of thyme will produce the kind of concentration necessary to kill the chalkbrood. I would requeen and try to avoid chilled brood.
