I have been putting frames of foundation into the broodnest in the BBEBBEBBEB pattern in order to head off swarming. Some of the new frames have a queen cell cup or two on the bottom. Internet searches have yielded conflicting opinions - some say they will build them only in preparation for swarming, others say they will build them anyway, without necessarily intending to swarm. I would be happy either way, as I would love to have some nice new queens and splits. I just don't want to get caught off guard and lose a nice swarm.
Thanks.

If they are on the bottom, I'm guessing they are swarm cells. If they ust build cups up in the middle without eggs, those are "just in case". If they build cells (eggs larvae and eventually capped) up in the middle that's usually either a supercedure or an emergency.

If these are peanut shaped cells on the bottom bar with eggs or larvae in them, I'd do a split. Now.
