Last Saturday I got a call from another beek that he is doing a trap out and he's out of town and the people called and they have a swarm there. I go over and there was a small - cantaloupe or so size on a rock 15' from the trap out on a rock close to the ground. I checked the trap out and everything looked to be going normal, but I don't know a lot about them. Anyway I went and got a Nuc and came back and got them. They were bringing in pollen the next day, so I assumed the queen was there and I left them alone for a week. I just opened them up and found and awesome color queen! Laying good and they are really gentle.

Wonder if the swarm is from the trap out being so close by? I would think...but as I said I don't know a lot about trap outs.

I have to say anywhere except down there, huh.
Don't bees fly down there also?
Luckily this is not a big colony.
Me, a tee shirt and short, a veil with a hive tool only.
Is she a carni mixed?

She's such a beauty, and how great that she's gentle as well! Congratulations!

I've got such an urge to try to catch a swarm of feral bees, but i've no idea what i would do with them if i ever got that lucky. :)

I always thought not to get feral bees because they are:
1. Full of mites and diseases
2. They are aggressive like AHB
3. Never pick up swarms from unknown origin that might mess up
your existing hive's genetic.
Any thoughts on this?

From everything Ive read, its exactly the opposite. Ferals are survivors and most desirable......
Of course, you may have more AHB where you are but I thought they were supposed to be the MOST disease and pest resistant. G
